KPOP Word of the Week - 세상/World

I know it’s been a while since I’ve done this. I apologize for being away so long. Thankfully, Block B released a new song yesterday for the soundtrack of Ghost (유령). I had to post about it because I love it so much.

After listening to it many times, I began to hear a word repeated. That word is 세상 (saesang), which means “world”. 

P.O. raps 세상 in the fourth verse of the song. He uses the form 세상이, meaning “the world”. 이 (ee/i) is a particle meant to denote the subject of a sentence. The full sentence that P.O. raps is as follows, “세상이 날 버린게 아냐” (saesangi nal beoringae anya). 세상이 날 버린게 아냐 means “it’s not that the world cast me away.”  

세상 is mentioned again in the next verse sung by Taeil. He says “이젠 날 세상에 던져줘”, meaning “now throw me into the world.” 세상 appears in the form of 세상에 (saesangae). 에(ae) is a particle denoting time, so 세상에 means “in the world” here. 

세상 appears many more times throughout the song. Listen carefully to see if you can hear it.

My dad walking into my room at night to calm me down because I was crying. I was standing in my crib (probably just turned three) and he talked to me for a bit until I calmed down and fell asleep. :)
